Dear Friend of CIMC,

While mindfulness practice can help you develop the capacity to see things more clearly, you don’t have to be a meditation master to see that 331 Broadway clearly needs a new coat of paint.

Unfortunately, we’re not just talking about keeping up appearances here. In many places around the building, the paint has peeled so severely that bare wood is now being exposed to the elements. So if we don’t repaint soon, we’re risking more serious damage to the structure.

And that’s not all. Three new drywells also need to be installed underneath our parking lot to prevent the flooding that occurs whenever there’s more than just a light rain. Last but not least, the flat roof and related gutters need to be replaced, and the wood trim restored.

The problem with all of this, as we’re sure you can guess, is cost. We’ve solicited estimates from a number of contractors, and have finally settled on several who can do the work for us – for a price. Here are the latest estimates:

            Paint and repair exterior of building  .….$20,000

            Replace roof, gutters, wood trim.… …..$15,400

            Install drywells under parking lot….…...$12,000

That’s a lot of money. And if experience is any indication, the final costs will be higher. However, these are all necessary expenses. Which is why we’re turning to our community for help.
